Spinners’ Yarn is original hand-dyed and handspun yarn created by myself, Wendy Morlang. I independently source fiber and purchase it undyed in roving or batts. This includes many different types of wool, alpaca, and a variety of blends which may consist in part of nylon, bamboo, silk, and/or tencel fiber. I come up with a combination of colors and then dye my fiber with professional grade, nontoxic dye. I use a couple different dye methods, my favorite of which utilizes a crock pot and ensures minimal agitation of the fiber (to discourage felting), and a maximum of control over the process of dyeing with multiple colors. Once dyed, rinsed, and air-dried, I spin the roving on my Schacht Ladybug spinning wheel. I decide how many plies I want to spin, how thick I want the yarn to be, and make any other decisions regarding my desired end result. My skeins of yarn span a range of styles from a basic, monochromatic yarn to a funky yarn spun thick and thin, featuring sequins or beads or locks of mohair in every color of the rainbow. I have spun fabric. I have spun recycled sari silk. I have yet to spin cat hair, but have considered it.

I decided to learn to spin when I taught myself how to knit and became smitten with the variety of textures and colors of yarn. I became less interested in what I was knitting, and more interested in the yarn itself. When I first started to spin I only thought about color combinations that would be nice. My craft has since progressed and inspires me to pay homage to some aspect of life, whether it is a pop culture reference, a place, a person, a line in a poem, anything that grabs me and challenges me to personify it in my handspun creations. I hope that my inspiration is transferred to my patrons who will then work with my yarn in their own fiber projects, whether it’s knitting, crocheting, weaving, or felting.

I am currently spinning in Hazen, North Dakota. I do not have a physical storefront yet, but hope to one day. I am also on etsy.

At this time my skeins of yarn are all one-of-a-kind and designed for small fiber projects, or to work as accents in larger projects. However, I will consider custom orders if more yarn is needed for a particular project. Please do not hesitate to email me!

I hope I can share my love of yarn with you.

I am always updating, so check my Products page often!
